The Justice institute

                                           What Is the Justice Institute?

The mission of the Justice Institute is to build a network of leaders, teachers and students, in St. Louis to motivate and empower grassroots activists through political education and training. The vision of the Institute is to ensure economic, political and social justice for working class people through local organized struggle.

Through principled political discussion and coordinated action, the Justice Institute seeks to transform our organizations into democratic entities that will grow and sustain themselves. In turn, the social justice movement will be strengthened and the impact of our strategic efforts will deepen and expand.

Justice Institute's Guiding Principles

• We will fight for the dignity, equality, and respect of all oppressed people.
• We will outreach to progressives and radicals within our community.
• We will create a safe space for the celebration of culture.
• We will fight to eliminate the tenets of capitalism.
• We will work to overcome the divisions within the broader progressive and radical communities and create solidarity to strengthen our movements.
• We will fight for the rights of all lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered individuals.
• We will fight for gender equality and for women's liberation.
• We will teach the art of organizing by passing on historically effective techniques and developing new strategic models and theories

Anti-Racist Collective's

"Statement of Honorable Intentions"

"We are a group of white anti-racists who are coming together to further anti-racist work among progressive activists in the St. Louis area. We are affiliated with the Justice Institute for the purpose of developing ongoing accountability to people of color. We do not want people of color to do our work for us, nor do we want to be a vehicle for consolidating white power. We are beginning with a study/discussion group focusing on The Cost of Privilege by Chip Smith. Our purpose in this group is to begin a joint process of analysis which can result in a set of shared beliefs relating to anti-racist work. We hope that a core group will coalesce around these beliefs and become an ongoing force for mutual support and anti-racist action in our progressive multi-racial, multi-national politics."
